Different jobs, different hardware
AI glasses prioritise microphones, speakers, a camera and battery life. AR glasses prioritise display optics, tracking sensors and rendering. The first can look like normal eyewear; the second usually cannot, yet.
The middle ground: HUD glasses
A heads-up display shows text and simple graphics that do not need to be anchored to the world. Navigation arrows, captions, notifications and teleprompter text all work well on a HUD without full AR.
Which should you buy?
If you want something wearable every day, buy AI or HUD glasses. If you want immersive media on a big virtual screen, buy tethered display glasses. If you want world-anchored AR, wait.
