Adaptive focus has been demonstrated for years. What has changed is packaging: the electronics, eye tracking and power budget now fit inside a frame someone might actually wear.
Two approaches dominate. Liquid-crystal lenses change refractive index electronically with no moving parts. Deformable-membrane lenses physically change shape, offering a wider focal range but adding mechanical complexity.
Neither approach has published independent long-term durability data, and neither has confirmed consumer pricing. Lenscript classifies both as pre-commercial or prototype until products ship.
